From Groundwork to Handover: 4-0 geen gelul
Still a bit claustrophobic from our last match we prepared ourselves for another match against Mare Volley. Since this time we would not have height restrictions we’ve already put down a proper foundation for the win. But before we could do any work we had to take a break with dinner at the freshly constructed home of Olaf on the Boulevard.
Arriving in the hall Gents 2 luckily won the game in the first 3 sets. We don’t talk about bruno the last set. The safety inspector (referee) cleared the field and blew his whistle. And blew it again and again and again and again until the opponents were down a substitute and two time-outs and we were 11-0 ahead. Mart started the match with a float service that had more wobble than scaffolding during a hurricane. Mare clearly didn’t follow the safety protocols since they were absolutely not ready for falling objects. This makes the current seasonal record for most services in a row by a single player 12. Unsurprisingly this set was won with ease.
The next two sets required a bit more engineering in order to win it but with the proper foundation of the first set in our mind and a few well timed coffee breaks we wrapped up phase 2 and 3 of this job and were right on schedule for a clear 4-0 win.
Easier done than said but with the last set in our pockets it was time for the final handover and as our captain signed the match sheet our first 4-0 was a fact and we started our belated vrijdagmiddagborrel in the canteen, not making it too late since tomorrow was the big day: Presenting the Mannen van de Bouw to the entire association.
That saturday I will summarize in a picture and a limerick:

The Mannen van de Bouw, bold and loud,
Swung a Big Hammer that wowed the crowd.
With a forklift in gear,
They brought even more fear,
Leaving cheers from the fans roaring loud
