Wreaking havoc in our field

Our team constructed pokebowls at Roels place. This provided us with the perfect foundation to match up against the lowest scoring team in the construction-league. The men of Havoc HS2 were facing demolition/demotion and for us this was the perfect opportunity to take the freight elevator towards the top of the competition. But we all know, things went differently.

The first set we took by a mm distance, which already indicated that the victory would not be as easy as we all dreamed of. The opponents slowly got warm and started to take the upperhand in the second set. As they preferred not to be demoted from the 1st class, they were joined by one player of the first team of Havoc, which was obviously too good for this competition. The game was very different depending on whether this outside hitter was in the front or in the back. By playing the majority of the balls to nr. 13, Havoc took the second set.

Now that they got a taste of victory, they ‘changed’ their strategy and played all balls toward nr. 13; dangerous at the front, mediocre from the C-attacks. Yes, their new tactics included playing C-attacks for a major part. Maybe now is a good moment to look inwards. Their substitute was not the only reason that we continued losing as our side of the field was a mess. The internal trust and coordination that we have been building the past months seemed to vanish like budgets during a renovation and even easy balls were dropped on our side of the court. Our play could be summarised on one word; chaos. Although we want to blame a lot on nr. 13, there was no reason for us to lose and in the end we did it all ourselves. We lost the game 1-3, handing four points we ourselves needed to the team on the bottom of the league.

Since there is not much joy to be had from the match itself, this blog will now continue onto the matchduty we had next day. Building the field and constructing a Harambeelike ambience is something we are more experienced with. After the nets were reconstructed with great accuracy, we went on to a well deserved breakfast. For this we prepared pulled chicken buns at the Olaf’s place down the street. The day continued with cheering for our association and manning the drums, practicing the ambience we missed next to our field yesterday. As our performance did not deserve much cheering from the stands, we were hoping for more energy from our own bench, which also slacked.

Then, like a déjà vu, nr. 13 returned to the court. Although he changed his name to nr. 3, we did recognise him in the field opposite of our sinking ships. Havoc HS1 was set to face oof with gents 5 and their score, although a loss, further showed how much we gave away our match against the second team of Haaksbergen.

Number 13 was the only one to score

As he hit most balls through the floor

The game’s a tragedy

Drank our beers unhappily

And for now Havoc is facing demotion no more.
