GGG To The Rescue

On a pictoresque thursday night there was one person with a plan. Amidst all of the bad vibes that were caused by the bad weather and it being a thursday in general, there was one person that was ready to save the match. Of course we are talking about GGG, or our one and only Gronau Garlic Girl Ima. What her plan was you ask? Kill our opponents with garlic.

As you probably all know by now, the fifth of december is the national Hungarian day of celebration for Garlic. To give some background about this joyous day, I will tell you about its origins and the traditions surrounding it. Garlic day has been around since around 1500, when King Vladilaus the second of Hungary installed the national holiday. Legend goes that his fascination for garlic actually started when, one day, his roast pork had too little taste for him, and a servant came up with putting 6 times the recommended amount of garlic into the filling of the roast pork, which ended up being exactly to the taste of Vladilaus. To honour his favourite ingredient, and promote it to the public as well, Vladilaus made a national holiday for garlic. Nowadays, the day of celebration has decreased in popularity a bit because doctors have released a statement that this much garlic is damaging for your gut health, but it is still customary to put 6 times the recommended amount of garlic in your food on the fifth of december.

To let us know about her culture, Ima actually bought 6 times the amount of garlic (6 cloves to be exact) to be put into our meal on thursday. Although not all cloves where used, we still honoured her national tradition and put a good amount of garlic in our food. Of course honouring her national day of celebration was not the only idea that was behind Ima’s use of garlic…making our opponent sick with  the mighty stench that came out of our mouths after having eaten the garlic was too, which would bring the victory to us in no time.

However, not all things work out as you want them too. Our opponent ignored the air that came out of our mouths, for which we have to give them credits, and outplayed us (by only a little bit… of course) to get the win. Although not the win, the garlic did have some peculiar side effects, one being for example that the garlic really played on Emma’s laugh, because of which it was not heard, even when we were certain that she was laughing. The garlic also emitted waves of good/spicy playing throughout the game, which made the game more enjoyable for our lovely livestream audience.

Next time, undoubtedly a bigger amount of garlic is needed to further better our playing and give us a chance to hear Emma’s silent laughing again. We count on our GGG to get even more garlic for our next match, which is hopefully in the near future, and we wish everyone a happy day of garlicy celebration on the fifth of december!
