The first game
Goodmorning zWeizen lovers!
Have you missed us? Well we have missed you!
Today, Ladies zWeizen had their first cup match. And as you might have expected! Great success! Not in points, but definitely in stories. So read this blog if you want to now all that happened today!
But first, the match prep. To get the season started, we decided to lunch on the benches and support our fellow teammates. As Marlijn, Daphne and Lise were coaching, we have invented a system. Lunch delivery. Ilse Westra (who now goes by the name Willy) was the delivery girl! And apart from the fact that she did not have an oranje Thuisbezorgd jacket, she did a great job! Kim was refereeing, so she also got a sandwhich. Which was definitely needed, as she was brak. Tip from Kim! When you are brak, referee first. Not after your game.
About refereeing and being brak, we suspect Vera was also a bit brak. Not only had she forgotten her whistle (she lended the one from Kim, but had to switch half-way because it blew to soft), she also did not wear her glasses. Or at least, that became clear in the third set. What happened, you might ask? Well, I will explain that later.
Now let’s talk about the actual match! The first set was fire! Or well, until juf-juf… Kim politely asked the stairs to drink, but they all rejected. Because of this disappointment, we decided to keep the 14 on the scoreboard and wait for the next juf-juf. Vips managed to win that set anyway.
Than it was time for the second set! In which again, we were on fire! This time we maneged to score 22-23! Onto the third set with good hopes!
The third set started a bit rusty, but after a few points we managed to find some flow. But than, tragedy struck. Remember when I said that Vera forgot her glasses? Well, we were the victim on this one. Daphne passed the most perfect skyball, precisely aimed at the left side line! Time slowed down, as the ball approached the line in an almost perfect vertical decent. We looked at the response of Vips, who were circling around the future landing spot of the ball. As this ball flew through the air, time went so slow it seemed as if Vips was having an entire meeting on if it would be in the field or not. Than! They made their decision: the ball will go out. So they didn’t even try to touch it. With an hard smashing sound, the ball crashed perfectly on the sideline. But Vera -who may I remind you forgot her glasses- gave it as a double fault. Unfortunately we did not recover.
In the final part of the set, we had one last glimse of hope. I remember it quite well… 11-22 on the scoreboard… and quite a long rally going on. As all the attackers failed to score, Anne saw her opportunity to use our secret weapon: Marlijn as libero with an C-attack! Only a few points ago, Marlijn oppered she was down for it. Unlucky for Marlijn (and the rest of the team), a silly outsider got in the way, and we can only dream of the perfect attack it could have been. Then we lost the set and ate some almost rare (but delicious) brownies.
There is one last thing I want to mention.. After the match, we discoved that we had an imposter in our team. Kim, our own captain last, decided to leave us. The only way she can make up for this highest form of treason, is by cheering us on in the Harambeaver during our next match. For 2 sets and 7 points, and no less! And to which team will the TOTY-points go? To us of course.
So now we welcome Ilse van der Veen with open arms! Who now will be called Vrank by the way, as three Ilses in one team is way to confusing.
See you next week!
