The second 4-0 for ladies 7!
Another week, another match. The team dinner was nice, and the vide was good, so we were ready to go! But our opponent was late, so we had to wait anxiously for their arrival. Six young girls walked onto the pitch, no coach, no substitutes. The six young girls turned out to be decent players as individuals, but were not very coherent as a team. When you put that against us, a well oiled machine, the score was already predetermined to turn out in our favour. The real match for us was the question, how many pitchers from the coach will we earn?
In the beginning of the first set, the six young girls were not very annoyed by the drums and cheering of the audience yet. So, they managed to keep up quite well. No pitcher earned.
However, in de second set frustration took the upper hand and the aggression of the six young girls was directed into complaining about the noise, rather than smashing balls into the ground. We won the set with 25-8! Pitcher 1 was in the pocket.
For the third set we didn’t want to deviate from the tradition too much. So, a little dip in quality of our playing was destined to happen. No pitcher won.
With the game already won, the only goal for the last set was to win a second pitcher. Franka fully agreed, as she would make Anne pay for it (Anne was not at the match). We fought hard and played as a good team. Nonetheless, luck was not on our side. The set was only won with 25-11, so that was not enough for the second pitcher.
After the match, Janneke’s biertjes grabbeltas and Sanne’s delicious cheesecake made the loss of the second pitcher easier to bear. All in all, another 4-0 win was in the pocket and the first spot in the competition is still ours.
Annoyance was all around
When we smashed the ball to the ground
The opponent didn’t know what to do
With the hall sounding like a zoo
But we really liked the sound
