New Year New Us
After a rough start in the second division of the mix competiion at the end of last year, we came into our match against mix 8 with some new year's resolutions:
- never give up
- always go for the ball
- always attack
- break fewer collarbones
Going into the match with these goals in mind, we started off on fire with perfect passes, blocks and attacks, living up to our new year's resolutions. We crushed our opponent 9-25 in the first set. Easy pitcher, or so we thought. In the second set, our opponent regained their energy and won, blowing us away (pun intended) with great teamplay and individual skill.
What followed was a fierce back-and-forth, taking us all the way to the fifth set late in the evening. Tired and exhausted we fought as hard as we could. However, after a sequence of good serves from our opponent we found ourselves behind 5-10. At this moment, hope was starting to fade, and spectators started to see our impending demise. But we persisted, not wanting to fail our first new year's resolution and we mounted the comeback placing us at 14-14. At this point, our opponent desperately switched out a player to get a better serve, and managed to pull of the win against us 14-16.
Despite our loss, we remain optimistic. We showed our best performance as a team so far, and had a very close and exciting match which is all we can ask for. We hope however, that this tornado does not cross our path again in the future.
