H1 continuing victorious in the cup matches!

Gents 1 had a second cup match on Friday, the 20th of September. We went up against the second team coached by Monica, Volley ‘68 HS1. They are the second team of Monica’s because that was very obviously indicated in the results of the match. Gents 1 came out victorious, winning 3:0 and finishing the opponents off quick. However, the victory did not come too easy, they did make us work for it and work we did put in.

We were quite short staffed, having only one outsider with us, the second spot was filled by one of the setters - Oskar. Even a few men short, we showed Volley ‘68, that we wanted the victory more and that we got.

The first set was quite close, where we were leading with a few points throughout the set. Wybren’s insane vertical jump and his great ability to put the balls on the opposing team’s side helped us through the first set. It was not only Wybren that played well, but everybody showed the willingness to play and stepped up to the occasion. In the end we won the first set 25:22

The second set began and went in a similar manner as the first one. The Harambee’s first Gents team was showing strong willingness to play and we hammered the balls into their side of the court. Even Oskar on the outside position made a few points from attacking. The vibes on the court were good and that helped us to gain a solid 25:20 victory in the second set.

The third set began well, with us having a solid 3 point lead, however we gave away the lead and the general vibes on the court were starting to die out a bit. Our substitute coach Hein pointed that out and told us to get back into the game, which increased the team’s morale and was exactly what we needed. From 15:15 tied, we made a sprint leading 23:16 and with that the game was pretty much over. In the end a solid 25:18 score for the last set.

To conclude, a solid second cup match. Make sure to be there on the upcoming Saturday at 17:00, when we face Apollo H2 within our very own University of Twente Sportscenter. It will be a match you don’t want to miss!
