Gents 1 retakes the pole 1 position

On the 9th November, the SC4 arena was once again filled with fired up fans and Gents 1 fighters. This time our opponents were Rivo Rijssen H1. We were expecting a tough game, even the supporters of the opposing team had the guts to come out here and cheer them on. We were hungry for some blood and as ready as we could be.

The first set began well, we went point for point in the first few points, but then we were more consistent and the opponent made quite a lot of mistakes. We earned our first lead with some nice combination attacking, a fighting spirit, good aggressive blocking and in general a good steady play. Monica’s double change for the setter and diagonal got us in front even more. We finished the first set off with a dominating win of 25:16.

The second set began in a similar manner to the first one, we got ahead right away with some good serving. The opponents were really struggling getting through our block. Mitch was making their life especially difficult shutting all the doors in blocking. They had no other option but to hit into the net and out to avoid humiliation of giving us another block point. Monica’s double change was also fruitful again, finishing the second set with an even more dominating score of 25:15.

The will of Rivo Rijssen was already quite broken after a devastating loss in the first 2 sets. However, it did not get much better for them. Our gents 1 fighters were ruthless, showing no signs of slowing down. We had some nice empty net combination attacks, great blocking, defense and general fighting spirit. We were especially making their life difficult with our steady and aggressive serving that got us a lot of points. This set was finished in the same manner as the previous one, 25:15, for us.

If the opponent was already broken before then they were absolutely destroyed in the 4th set. We began off with a 5:0 lead after successful serves from Oskar. The energy was high and we did not slow down, we extended the lead to 12:3, with great receiving from Vince, great blocking and defense from Mitch and everybody else’s commitment. There was absolutely nothing they could have done. Everybody in the team got some playing time and they really showed Rivo, who deserves the number 1 spot. We won the last set with a dominating score of 25:9, winning the game 4:0.

We took back our first place with 15 points and are looking to extend our lead even further on the 15th of November, when we will be going up against Monica’s other team. Who will she favor and who will come out on top? Find out soon!
