Apollo 8 HS3 vs HS2
Apollo 8 HS3 vs HS2: 1-3 27-25, 21-25, 20-25, 23-25
Despite a rocky start to the match, this was a much greater display of consistency especially compared to the match against Gents 3. Excluding the first set, there were no other moments where it appeared that Apollo would really take full control over any set. This game was strongly defined by an imbalance between the middles on both teams. With weaker opposition, careful passing, as well as intelligent setting the team was able to secure many open points. Either they were unable to defend the middle, or overcommited their defenders, leaving the outsides open.
1 - The first set could be characterized by a very clear lack of energy. Despite the team having good confidence, there was a tangible lack of energy that was present in the field. This meant that Apollo was able to take advantage of this, and score silly points that should not have been close.
2 - The second set compeltely shifted the tide of the game. With some adaptations made by Henny, and him emphasizing the importance of exploiting the missmatch in the middle it was possible to create a gap and easily take the set.
3/4 - The third and fourth set were more of the same. The team continued to play in a similar fashion, fighting for balls, and exploiting the gap in the middle. The teams effort was commendable in playing a cleaner style of volleyball than we are used to. The squad was fully focused on the details and improving accuracy in all facets of play.
We are excited to host Apollo at home, and hopefull once again show you what we are made of. This time we just hope to be able to take the whole game without dropping a set.
