A match with mixed feelings
Aloha reader(s), On February 8, it was time for the match against TiMaX/DeVoKo. Starting with the positive news: we won another set! Moreover, we can be very satisfied with how we played according to (substitute) coach Marijn, who replaced Herwin as he had his team weekend. But if you keep in mind that we won against these opponents last time, nota bene in an away match, we had hoped for more. Besides, we have to do it with only one setter for the coming time, after the other was injured during the third se... Read more
Twente'05
Aloha reader(s), Saturday, January 18, the match against Twente'05 DS1 was scheduled. Although the final score of 0-4 was not in our favor, there was definitely progression in our play. The first set started a bit messy, but we soon managed to put pressure in the back of the court and our service also ran well. After the sluggish start we started to become alert at the net, with nice blocks and where we punished their too far passes. Despite this effort, the set ended in 21-25. In the second set Twente'05 s... Read more
New Year fulled with second chances
Aloha reader(s), Last Saturday it was time for the first match of the second half of the competition, where we will face all our opponents again. Since we did not manage to win very many sets in the first half, 5 to be exact, we thought we could start the year well against Twente-Sparta. Although the last time we had played against them we had lost 0-4, during the cup matches we had won one set from them. Moreover, today we were complete as a team, which had happened once before this season, namely in the o... Read more
The match against the number one...
Aloha reader(s), The match against Aasstad, the number one in our competition, was fairly short, but not too powerful. And despite the referee saying afterwards that we were playing quite well, but simply having trouble with two or three players' services, we thought that it was a match to forget soon. We got off to a good start in the changingroom, when it turned out that one of the middles had forgotten her sportshoes. Lucky for us, another Harambee team was playing before us with a coach whose shoes we c... Read more
The match with unusual substitutions
Aloha reader(s), Saturday December 7th, we had to play a match against Apollo 8 DS5. There was a lot of audience for encouragement, partly because it was home weekend, but also because Apollo had brought quite some spectators from Borne. During the cup games we had already played against them, in which we had lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-18). So, we knew it was going to be a tough match, in which there was not much room to fall behind. Fortunately, we played a nice match, in which mainly the service was not s... Read more
Match rhythm is just not our thing
Aloha reader(s), On Friday, November 29, it was time for our away match against Kuipers Flevoll Ladies 2. This match occurred later in the evening, so after dinner, there was plenty of time for a nice game with everyone. Once we were done with that, it was time to make our way to the match location. After changing clothes, we could start the warm-up. Here it turned out that the referee was not good at watching the clock, and we are not talking about the fact that the clock in that hall had not yet been mov... Read more
Dilemma time
Aloha reader(s), Saturday, November 23, we faced Volley '68 DS1. And although the match was scheduled at 1 p.m., meaning that we would start the warming-up at 12.15 p.m., it turned out that the match before us had yet to start their fourth set at that time. Since that left us with some time to spare, we decided to go back into the hallway where it was a little warmer and do some team bonding. Thus, we got to know each other better by bombarding each other with dilemmas, such as: what do you prefer, always ... Read more
First competition win!
Aloha reader(s), Last Saturday, it was finally time for the first match in which our team was complete. As mentioned in the previous team blog, this meant that we could combine ALL our strengths to have a great match with a good result. The first set started off fairly like we were used to; we were quickly 5-0 down, and later even 17-11 behind, but then we began our comeback. However, where we had 'sometimes' let it slip away in the past, we now managed to win the set 22-25! With this, we had doubled the n... Read more
Still no sign of 'third time's a charm'
Aloha reader(s), Saturday, November 9th marked our fourth competition match of the season. After the first three matches, in which we only managed to win one set, we were again extra motivated to secure some points today. Our opponent, Ti-Volley, provided a good opportunity for us to get back on track, but unfortunately, things did not go as hoped. Despite the energetic encouragement from the crowd and our efforts, luck was not really on our side. We fought hard, but the opponents managed to get at least t... Read more
Reunion with old friend
Aloha reader(s), Already a week and a half ago, it was time for our match against Twente'05 DS1. Some of us had already faced (part) of this team in a preparation tournament at the starting of this academic year. This gave us a heads-up that we needed to stay alert throughout the game. There were also some 'new' faces on their team, including Laura, who now plays there. In the first set, we started strong and built up a nice lead. If you're a regular reader of this blog, you might already guess what happen... Read more
