Gents 1 lost their first set of the season (in third division)
On the 15th of November, a week after completely annihilating Rivo Rijsen H1, we were faced against Monica’s other team – Volley’68 HS1. Already before the match during warming up something felt a bit off with our warriors. The hitting wasn’t going too well and in general there was some nervousness in the air.
Out of the gate, the opponents started well and therefore we were trailing by a few points. We were able to make a comeback and get ahead by a few points with successful blocking and attacking. However, the passing was really off, making it really difficult to build up our game. Fortunately for us, we took the first set with the score of 25:22.
The second set began by us going ahead right away from successful services and good scoring of the rally balls. However, in the middle of the set we were unable to receive and score a few balls and the opponents made a comeback tying the score at 17:17. We calmed ourselves down a bit, fixed our mistakes and took the set 25:22.
The third set was the most difficult one so far. The opponents were not giving up, especially in defense. A huge shout out to the opposing team’s libero. He was all over the place and was truly a pain in the ass to deal with. We had some of the longest rallies and the set was full of battles. We were once again tied in the end of the set, however the opponent made quite a few simple mistakes in a row and thus giving us the third set with the same score of 25:22.
The last set, important for the 5 points, was very difficult. We were the whole time behind by a few points. The set was long, both sides making mistakes and at times it was not the prettiest of volleyball. We were ahead 24:23 however served into the net. We had another match point at 25:24 and once again served into the net. These were the last chances we had as then the opponent took the lead and we lost the final set, the first one of this season, 27:29. It was a heartbreaking loss and the 3:1 win did not feel like a win. Monica was happy at least as her other team got some points as well.
This put us on a nice spot in the leaderboard and now we have a two week break until our next game. Stay tuned for more blog posts!
